These are very normal emotions to have before and after a positive pregnancy test.

Why is it Normal to Feel Scared?

Finding out you’re pregnant is life-changing news. Regardless of what your circumstances are, it is okay to feel fear without any guilt or shame.

Maybe you are surprised by the news, lack support or feel confused because you were using contraception. Perhaps you are concerned about finances, health, lifestyle, age, or goals and dreams.

You might be over the top excited but feel scared because you have never done this before or you’re concerned about all the unknowns. Maybe you just don’t know where to start. Whatever your situation, just know you are not alone.

Suggestions for What to Do with Your Feelings

It’s important to talk about what you are feeling with someone you trust. That could be a partner, family member, close friend, or counselor. It’s ok to reach out for help. Remember you don’t have to figure it all out in one day. Be gentle with yourself as you process the news.

Coming up with a plan can help ease some of your anxiety. Because of this, we suggest you take some time and make a list of next steps, and work on them one at a time.
