Pregnancy Testing
All the symptoms are there, a missed or late period, feeling nauseous and sore breasts. You think you may be pregnant. These are common pregnancy symptoms, but there is so much more to know. What is your next step?
The first thing you should do is take a free pregnancy test at Pregnancy Resources of Abilene. We offer lab-quality, urine pregnancy tests that are 99% accurate, as early as 2 weeks after conception, and can help answer the question, “Am I really pregnant?”
WHEN SHOULD I TAKE A PREGNANCY TEST?
You’re likely to get reliable results if you wait until the first day after your missed period. However, waiting a few more days will most likely give you more accurate results. If your period is regular, this is pretty easy to calculate. If your period is irregular or you haven’t tracked it accurately, it may be a little harder to tell. By waiting a few days, you will get more reliable results from your pregnancy test.
HOW DOES A PREGNANCY TEST WORK?
When you’re pregnant, your body produces the hormone hCG, commonly referred to as “the pregnancy hormone.” This hormone increases as it enters your bloodstream and urine. A pregnancy test detects the amount of hCG in your urine to determine if you are pregnant.
WHAT IF MY PREGNANCY TEST IS POSITIVE?
If your test is positive and you weren’t planning to be pregnant, don’t panic. We’re here to offer support, listen to your concerns, and provide you with information to help you process your next steps in a loving and judgment-free environment.
After a positive pregnancy test, and meeting certain qualifications, we can offer an ultrasound so you can learn more about the pregnancy. An ultrasound is necessary if you’re considering an abortion. It will determine what kind of abortion procedure you can have.
