An unplanned pregnancy can bring a whirlwind of emotions and uncertainties. If you find yourself in this situation, know that you are not alone. At Pregnancy Resources of Abilene, we understand the complexities and challenges that come with an unexpected pregnancy, and we are here to support you every step of the way. In this blog, we'll explore what you might be feeling, the options available to you, and how our center can provide the support you may need.
Understanding Your Emotions
An unplanned pregnancy can trigger a wide range of emotions including shock, fear, confusion, and even joy. It's essential to acknowledge these feelings as they are a natural response to an unexpected situation. Give yourself permission to feel and process your emotions without judgment. Talking to someone you trust or seeking professional counseling can be incredibly helpful during this time.
Exploring Your Options
When facing an unplanned pregnancy, it's crucial to understand that you have options. Each choice comes with its own set of considerations and it's important to take the time to explore what would be best.
1. Parenting
Choosing to parent can be a rewarding yet challenging path. Consider the following:
Support System: Do you have family, friends, or a partner who can support you emotionally and practically?
Financial Stability: Are you prepared for the financial responsibilities that come with raising a child?
Personal Readiness: Do you feel ready to take on the responsibilities of parenthood at this time?
If your answer is no to one or all of these questions, that is okay. We can help! Come in today and talk with one of our client consultants and they can share with you how we may be able to help meet some of your needs.
2. Adoption
Adoption can be a loving choice that provides your child with a stable and supportive family. You have complete autonomy through the process, you get to choose who your child would go to and you get to choose how open you would want the adoption to be.
Open Adoption: Involves ongoing contact with the adoptive family and the child. (open adoption agreements are not legally enforced in the state of TX)
Semi-Open Adoption: Includes limited communication through a mediator.
Closed Adoption: No contact between birth parents and the adoptive family post-adoption.
3. Abortion
Abortion is now banned in the state of Texas, under Chapter 170A of the Texas Health & Safety Code, except in certain narrow circumstances.
Section 170A.002 restricts a person from performing, inducing, or attempting an abortion. Exceptions are for situations in which the life or health of the pregnant patient is at risk.
It’s also important to note:
Women can not be sued or prosecuted for their abortions.
It is perfectly legal and completely confidential to come and talk to us about abortion. You will not get in trouble.
